Jason Russell is a yodan, a fourth degree black belt in judo.  Jason has been involved in the sport of judo for twenty four years.  He has competed at  local, regional and national levels.  He has been coaching others for 13 years.

Sensei Russell was taught by his father Randy Russell a 7th degree black belt who has trained and competed with many of the international legends in the world of judo.

Sensei Russell believes that judo can provide innumerable benefits mentally and physically to those who practice it.  He wants his students to learn respect for the traditions of the sport, to develop excellent technique based upon a strong foundation of knowledge and to increase their athletic abilities.  Saftey and sportsmanship are emphasized in his classes.  Sensei Russell understands that students have individual goals and expectations of the sport.  Those who are primarly interested in physical activity are encouraged to join as well as those who would like to perform on a competitive level.

Assistant Coach Alex Georgakilas

Assistant Coach Alex Georgakilas is a biology professor at East Carolina University.  He has been involved with the sport of judo for twenty years.  A native of Greece, Sensei Alex started his judo training in Athens.  Sensei Alex at an early age showed to have a natural gift for judo and by the time he was in college he was part of the Greek National Judo Team.  During  Sensei Alex's competitive years he has won many titles.  Sensei Alex was twice the Greek National Judo Champion.  He is also a three time silver medalist at the Greek National Judo Championships, as well as a five time bronze medalist.  Internationally he placed fourth in the Balkan Judo Championships in 1995 and fifth at the 1996 Sophia Bulgaria Judo Open.
